About the case

The lawsuit alleges that HealthPort failed to comply with the Pennsylvania Medical Records Act and breached an implied contract by charging persons or businesses more than the state's fee ceiling for copies of medical records. HealthPort denies the allegations. It asserts that the Medical Records Act does not apply to records requested by a third party for a patient's life or health insurance application, and that any payments were made voluntarily with full knowledge of its charges.
